Usually, steering with the single wheel on a tricycle is a good way to make it unstable. However, some folks in Amsterdam don't seem to mind. Check this out - rear wheel steered bakfiets.

Warning, the women love a sharp dressed man, and as such, Gary has found some scantily clad groupies to take his photo with. Not everything this man does at his job is safe for yours!

Bike Sidehack

Saw one of these for the first time this weekend. A bicycle sidecar from Chariot. Besides being more complicated to connect, and making bike parking a hassle, I suppose the main effect is that you can look at your kid. If that's important, time to get a bakfiets. Has anyone out there ever used one? Does it allow you to take left turns like this?

Torker Cargo Bike

Curious, I reached down and unlocked the headset on this Torker cargo bike.  The heavily laden basket instantly became unwieldy.  Something I didn't take into account because I'm not used to riding with a ton of weight on my front fork.  

But, clearly something that's needed on a cargo bike.
Look at that price.  This might be a great car-replacer for urban citizens.  Do all your shopping and errands by bike.  It's also a much more svelte way of making the bike ridgid for loading, as compared with the traditional center stands, like what you'll find on many cargo bikes like the Bilenky.

Ok, this is the last ski toting bike picture I'm going to blog, mainly because it is the ultimate ski toting bike.  Just look at those serious spiked tires, full fenders and stainless steel ski tube.

As our first post of 2009, let me tell you about something else I saw at the SF Museum of Modern Art. The Carrie bicycle basket. It has a much more intuitive, robust and well designed attachment than many of the other bicycle baskets I've seen.

It hooks on in a simple, non-fussy way and is just a plain, open basket with a handy nylon strap for carrying.

That strap would probably work better if the top of the basket didn't have protruding petals on it to dig into your back/hip, but what they hell, it's artistic. If you want to buy one, you can drop the steep, $50 here.

Surly Utility Bike with Mega Tires

This is a Surly Big Dummy with Large Marge rims seen at a cyclocross race apparently owned by this dude.

Those Maxxis Hookworm tires are huge! I looked them up on the web and was surprised to find out that they can hold 110 PSI! That would be great for low resistance rolling on road and graded trails. A bike like that could be a car-replacer.

Santa Cruz area framebuilder Rock Lobster is a cyclocross powerhouse.  Producing riders (through team sponsorship) and bikes that regularly win races all over the country.
