Mountain Hardware Puzzle

I love the idea of a bike touring tent like the Mountain Hardware Ghisallo but... wouldn't it be impossible to get into the tent then put your bike under the vestibule? Conversely, wouldn't it be impossible to get into the tent once the bike is there? It appears that there might be two doors, one on the bike side and one on the other side. However, how does the bike stand up once it's under the canopy other than leaning it's greasy, pokey self all over the white fragile nylon? Better to bring a regular tent and a $0.05 trash bag slit open to cover the bike.

The midnight-pee aspect of the design is certainly concerning. That's just the kind of stupid way I'd hurt myself too.

Exactly. You could end up tangled in a bike in the middle of the night. I just thought of another reason not put the bike under your tent - it's probably safer locked to a tree.

I have been thinking about investing in one of these. Apparently, people have had trouble with taller bikes....I ride a 58cm and I may have to drop my seatpost to get under the awning. I certainly like the idea of being able to keep watch of my bike, but I also like the idea of tying it to a tree.
I really want to0 trade in my bivy tent for something with a place to cook a meal in the rain....this is likely the answer. I may end up tying my bike to a tree and enjoying the awning in a downpour.
Got to give them credit for engineering us bikers into their products! These days we vote with the dollar...

Totally. Vote with your money and buy products from companies that design products that work instead of look good on the hired model families from REI catalogs. A friend of mine carries a siliconed nylon tarp for cooking and sitting under and a bivy for sleeping in. Result - a lot of dry space and very little to carry.
